February 7, 2023 Meeting Report

The weather may be cold, but our Centenary celebration of 100 years of service in Two Rivers is just heating up!

Welcome (Guests and Junior Rotarians)

Our Junior Rotarians this week were Cameron Sayeski and Dion Limon. Dion was joining us for the first time and told us about his involvement with show choir and related artistic events.

Club Operations

The Board voted to politely decline running food booth at Wisconsin Sand Sculpting Event Jul 14-16

The Board voted to donate $1,500 to the Tech Ed Lab at TRHS for Computer Aided Drafting machines. “I was very impressed with what they are doing,” Michael D. said. On the 28th of this month, the high school will host a meeting for the Rotary Club and members will get a tour of the new lab. We will keep the business portion of that meeting to a minimum. Tour is likely to extend a little later than our usual meeting time. Notices will be sent to remind everyone. Please note that there will be no Zoom available for this meeting.

Thank you to Dennis S. for attending the Pre-President Elect Training Session (PETS) last weekend. The formal PETS will be held March 3, 4 and 5, and combines six districts. Only about half of our district was represented, Dennis said. The event took about 3.5 hours on Saturday morning and is geared towards making sure that the presidents-elect are signed up properly. They talked about goal setting for next year.

Club Events and Service Opportunities

Report on Sunday Supper. We served 59 meals, and this year marked the best attendance we have had for that event. The Club received $130 in donations, the most they have ever gotten! There were lots of compliments on Betty’s meatloaf! Thanks to all the volunteers that helped make this event a success!  Kim & Faye, Lori & Alexa, Betty & Mark Bittner, Tim & Karen, and Colleen.

Update on Annual Dinner. Invitations should be going out soon. A letter has been sent out to members to obtain auction items. The volunteer organizers would like to have all auction items by March 17th. Every member should also bring a bottle of alcohol for a raffle. Wendy is contacting breweries in northeast Wisconsin to see what we can get donations from them. The team is also going around the city to get gift certificates from businesses. On the invitation, we will include mention of our 100-year anniversary in Two Rivers. We will also solicit for sponsors.

Update on plans for 100-year celebration. Each week, Wendy will present "100 seconds on Rotary history" consisting of interesting facts and happenings. Today we learned about the humble beginnings in Chicago, IL. The name Rotary was chosen because meeting locations rotated between members.

About 20 people attended our 5th Tuesday Social event. It was a great success!

Lori Zimney is working on Easter Bags.  She will have names and ages of children by March 17.  She plans to distribute bags on April 12.

Two Rivers High School seniors are short money for senior banners this year.  Members would like to help those students who are unable to pay the $55 per banner fee.

Michael is working with Manitowoc Rotary clubs to plan more joint social events.

Volunteers needed for Meals on Wheels for the week of March 6.  Sign-up is available on line or in the black book at meetings.  If you volunteer, remember to fill out the confidentiality required form.

District Activities

Tricon is scheduled for April 28 & 29 in LaCrosse.  Rotarians are encouraged to attend.

Looking Ahead

Join us for our next meeting at Cool City Brewing Company (and online via Zoom) on Tuesday, February 14, at 7:00 am.
